Please don't pass by this sweetie because of her breed. She LOVES being with her people - her name should be Velcro! Her favorite place is on your lap. Mia was found by a person that was rehabbing a property in Philadelphia. She was laying outside of another home. He stopped and asked the woman if she knew anything about the dog and she told him yes, she called Animal Control but they didn't bother to come out and pick her up - it was her boyfriends and he took off because there was an outstanding warrant for him. The man asked why not feed her? To which she replied, why? it's not my dog!!! So, the good samaritan scooped her up and took her to the vet - she was skin and bones and the vet told him she had only 1 maybe 2 days left before she would have died of starvation. This is a testament to this wonderful breed, she was used for breeding and left to die, and she never left her owner's property. She wasn't tied out or confined in anyway - but she chose to stay. The man that rescued her had her vetted and when she was spayed, he found out that she had, in fact, dodged another bullet. She had pyometra, and infection in the uterus and if left untreated, could have died. After months of searching for a rescue to take her in, she came to live with me, her foster mom. I had tried to get her in with a pit bull rescue group in NY that I had transported for and respected. They took her for a temperment test and she failed...because she didn't pay attention to them while outside. She was too interested in other things. This group, like some others only takes in the top notch pits and if left with them, Mia would have been euthanized. So, back she came with me and I've had her ever since. Mia LOVES people and just wants to be next to her humans, or better yet, on them. She would do best as an only dog. She's up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed and is about 6yrs old. She did have ACL surgery on her right back leg in March08 and has fully recovered. In fact, you couldn't really tell she had injured herself - - she is a very strong and determined girl and her recovery was smooth. She can clear a 4ft fence with ease and grace, so a higher fence would be ideal.
